    This needs to be re-implemented in 0.10. As this will have a lot of AIR-specific code, we should just pull the code from the 0.8 branch and hack it into master.

    Basically implemented as above, and seems like an improvement. Shorten menu clicks still flash the panel, but that could be worked around if necessary.
